I Love, therefore I Am

Love is the I Am. The almighty power that created the universe and gave us the divine ability to be conscious of ourselves.

We know Love when we believe in it, seek it first in the spirit and express it by loving one another.

Love makes it possible for us to love those who love us, those who hate us and everyone in between.

If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them!

When we are fearful or afraid, Love is lacking in us, so we cling to the world. But the world and everything in it is going to pass.

U2 faithfully sings it in their worship song Love is all we have left.

I wanted the world but you knew better
And that all we have is immortality

Jesus teaches us that love has no fear, because perfect Love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.

God is Love. Anyone who knows Love lives in peace and makes a conscious decision to love others, regardless of merit.

We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

Nothing can separate us from the love of God except our own freedom to deny him. But why would we?

When we know Love and live in Love, we know God.

Love is God’s imprint on our spirit.

Our offerings of gratitude

Everything we “have” was given, so we don’t actually have anything in the sense that it’s “ours”, because it’s all gifts.

Living with this spiritual understanding humbles us.

Like in the worship song Gloria, by U2, we acknowledge that we don’t have anything. But if we did, we’d want to give it to God as an offering of gratitude for the eternity of love he gave us!

When God calls us, we become expressions of his love by worshiping him with the talents he’s gifted us.

My offerings of gratitude to God are my writing and counselling/coaching with his Love as my “methodology.”

Singing in the name of love

I hold music dearly to my heart. There was always a soundtrack to the most meaningful moments in my life, and of course the type of music I listened to would often reflect the state of mind I was in.

Take for instance my Marilyn Manson phase. I am sure you can imagine what I looked like, dressed like and thought like. Then came a Nine Inch Nails phase. And I will give it to Trent Reznor, his music truly is beautiful. But it is also full of darkness, despair, hopelessness.

Only one band made it through the years in spite of my various degrees of darkness along the course of my atheism. That band was, and is, U2.

After being an atheist for 15 years, and a U2 fan for 20 years, I didn’t quite realize what their songs were really about. Now counting 25 years as a fan, and 5 transformative years since God called me out of my darkness, I can tell that the depth and breadth of these guys’ faith is written all over their music.

How could this band that was always there, always around, be singing about love, the higher love without me ever getting it? Simple: I never believed in God and thus his message was concealed from me and incomprehensible, as obvious as it was.

U2 is the perfect example of how it takes God calling us for us to listen and understand his message. Their songs all have this air of mystery, but for anyone who knows the Word and listens closely, the meaning becomes as clear as day.

Many well-known U2 songs have passed as poetic work, but they’re way more than that. Where the streets have no name is a reference to heaven. In the name of love is a reference to Jesus. Who is God. Who is love.

It would not be an exaggeration to call these songs as U2’s psalms to God. Listen closely and your spirit will be touched.

In the name of love

Last time I was at a U2 concert a few years ago, Bono sang Pride (In the name of love), and singing it along with him for the first time after my conversion was powerful.

The first four verses felt like a hymn to God and, knowing about Bono’s faith, I felt like together we were church and I know that He was right there with us!

This is just one example of how God infuses everything in this world with His presence.

When we’re open to His love, we experience it everywhere.
